Bob   Klanac

Bob Klanac is a Canadian music journalist who has penned hundreds of reviews and interviews. He was a juror for the Polaris Music Prize and is currently a member of the Slaight Family Polaris Heritage Prize Jury and a Juno Awards juror. Originally from Thunder Bay, Bob lives in London, Ontario.

Bob came by his mania for cheesy rock music at a young age, straining nightly to tune in Chicago’s WLS radio across the Great Lakes in Thunder Bay. Hearing the Rolling Stones for the first time was the clarion call that would start his musical obsession.

Writing about it followed quickly. Penning record reviews for a local shopping paper at age 14 led to writing for the local university newspaper a few years later. Although still in high school, the Argus at Lakehead University took him in as a contributor, highly amused at the kid with a music jones who wanted, nay had to write about it. His two-page review of The Sex Pistols God Save The Queen single was a particular highlight of his time there.

Over the years, Bob wrote for any outlet that he could find, resulting in an impressive body of work (Google ‘Klanac Industries’ for details). His interviews over the years ranged from Levon Helm, John Mayer, Garth Hudson, Richard Thompson, Bill Wyman, Elliot Smith, Jeff Tweedy, Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland, Chris Cornell, and Johnny Winters to fellow Canadians Micheal Buble, Blue Rodeo, Ian Tyson, Dave Foley, Ron Sexsmith, Rufus Wainwright, Sarah Harmer, and Jack Richardson.

Bob continues to rave and occasionally write about the music that moves him and is unlikely to stop anytime soon.
